#924 Eastern Bluebird |
I think the contrast of the blue against the grey and black is wonderful, and it has wood grain which is always a bonus for me. We don't have this bird in our area (southern BC, Canada) and I have not seen any of the type of bluebirds we do have, so I need to rely on photos that are in free domain. Thank heaven for the internet!
"Eastern Bluebird" is a 5 x 8.5 acrylic on plastic type canvas paper. This paper must have different finishes on each side because when I painted the onions it was really easy to use but today's painting was much harder. Now for a coat of sealer and I will be done!

Lovely Val, and you rock the wood!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila. I always enjoy doing wood in every medium.
DeleteI agree with Sheila on the wood...and the shadows are great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurie. I was pleased with both those elements too.
DeleteVery much like how you rendered the wood and do like the color blue for the bird -what color(s) did you use o come its th strong light blue? We are lucky enough to have a pair of bluebirds during parts of the year and they are so beautiful when caught up close or in the sunlight. Just makes you smile. Well don Val
ReplyDeleteThanks Nelvia, I used Ultramarine and white gesso for the blue although there might have been a touch of burnt umber from a dirty brush which would have toned it down a bit. I thought I would have to pull out some other colors but the ultra worked great. BTW about the cerulean - I really only use it for the lower part of a sky in acrylic or if I want an opaque gray in watercolor. - best of luck!
DeleteI really like how you did the grain of the wood behind the lovely bluebird!!! Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan
