2016 Day 14

I was really looking forward to painting this piece but the longer I painted the less I liked it.
Touch of Summer
It got to the point where I really wasn't much interested in how it was going and I finally just sort of slapped on the paint.

I think the problem was that my mind was not on painting. Today I started sowing seeds for my bedding plants. I have been starting many of my own flowers every January for almost 10 years and I will be spending time tending them daily for the next five months. (I have found, in spite of having an abundance of them around, that I rarely paint flowers any more.)

So that is why this painting is a little rough and ready - too much distraction and impatience.

Don't forget to check out Leslie's blog to see the wonderful art from the over 300 artists who are participating in this 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

  1. I can relate. The more I paint some things, the less I like it. But be kinder to yourself-there's a lot to like about this little gem! (especially the composition and color scheme!)

    1. Thanks Laurie, I like the color scheme too. I rarely paint over or discard paintings that I am unhappy with because many times those are the ones that sell - lol.

    1. Thanks Joan - one of the problems with doing the 30 paintings challenge is those days where the spirit isn't willing. We just have to push thru and do it!

  3. I really like this Val. I like how you merely suggested the table shape. The leaves, blooms and vase all have nice shapes. The blue is bright and not sky like. Lovely :)

    1. Thanks Sheila. I actually thought of you while I was painting it as it reminded me of your bright, colorful flower paintings

  4. Funny how soon into a picture we know it isn't going right, but I think always good to finish as hopefully we learn something, I am on a blue kick, what do,or(s) is your background? Odd how our minds work, am always glad to shut the garden down as it is plenty of work, but about this time of year I start t get xcitd about being able to be out in it again. That is until the high 90s come.

  5. Hi Nelvia - yup we complain about the cold until we can complain about the heat but both seasons offer beauty. I am still using ultramarine with white - it is my most used blue. Thanks for stopping by.
