I think it is interesting how some colors just resonate with me and others don't. This morning I was working on two pieces and the first just seemed to flow.

The colors worked well together and where it blended the result was very pleasing to my eyes. I was aiming for a free flowing abstract look and think I hit my mark. The problem with abstracts - which way is 'up'?

I think this piece could be hung either way and I almost wish I had two of them - lol. The painting is a 6 x 11 acrylic on mat board and will probably be mounted on canvas or framed.
I hope you will let me know which format you prefer - landscape or portrait?
As to the other piece I worked on - I hope to be able to do something with it tomorrow but don't hold your breath.
I like them both. The top one looks like rain, and the bottom looks like a flowing river :)
ReplyDeleteAbstracts are so cool - everyone sees something different. Thanks for commenting Sheila
DeleteI love the "pleasing to the eye" comment. I love when that happens! They're both nice compositions (and I like the color scheme, too). But my favorite is the portrait. It gives it a dramatic look: a huge and high waterfall.
ReplyDeleteI am seeing my painting in a whole new light - thanks Laurie for your comment
DeleteFirst I love th colors in this piece. Yes it looks good both ways but I have to agree with Laurie, I think my preference is portrait too as it is more dramatic. I seem to favor portraits anyway I think, just my eye I guess. Like, these a lot and yes it would have been cool to get two as they would have been quite impressive on the wall. Super work Val
ReplyDeleteThanks Nelvia. I don't often wish that I did prints of my work but this piece makes me see the advantage. Oh well, I will let the buyer decide!
DeleteI like both of them too, but I think the horizontal composition is more calming. It is funny how the different compositions give a completely different feeling. The first one makes me feel like I can hear the roar of the water and has such high energy. Good work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan. I think I will have to remove the names of these pieces as each of us are seeing different things - it is all in the eye of the beholder I guess.
DeleteLove the look of the first, Val - I see a man walking out of the mist. Where did he come from? Where's he going?
ReplyDeleteIt is definite! I will have to leave this unframed or put 2 wires on it so the purchaser can choose his own perspective. Fascinating observations! thanks Win.
