2016 Day 18

I worked on three pieces today and none of them turned out very well. The first two got washed off but I continued with the third until I figured it was finished.
Lightening Strikes
More work might have improved this piece but I was all out of umpf so I left well enough alone!

Lightening Strikes is acrylic on one of my home-made 5 x 7 x 3/4" canvas boards. It may get painted over in the future but for now it is what it is.

I hope tomorow will be better!

  1. I like this Val. Great movement in the stormy clouds and sea. Step away and look at it again in a couple days. Bet you will find the answer. Hope tomorrow is better for you too! have fun :)

  2. Thanks Sheila, Maybe the problem was that I stopped having fun with this piece. Thanks for the boost!

  3. I get it. We've all been there. The difference is that you kept trying and you posted it. I agree with Sheila and sometimes leaving it alone for a couple days allows me to suddenly "see" what's missing! Keep going! In the meantime, whether you realize it or not, all this "starting over", wiping, etc, is what is making you progress as an artist!

  4. Thanks for your words of encouragement Laurie - I guess my progress has been by leaps this week if screw-ups are a factor - lol.

  5. Great stormy scene!!! I wouldn't want to be out there.

Sometimes a piece needs to "sit a spell" before you finish it. What is needed sometimes takes a while to be seen.

    1. Thanks Joan. I have the painting on a shelf where I can see it every day - hopefully inspiration will strike. Have a good night.
