I have been jumping around all over the place with my subjects for this challenge but I have stuck with my theme which is "Miscellaneous". How's that for a broad theme? There have been small themes within the main theme but generally my paintings have been a pretty eclectic mix.

#998 - In the Battlefield - 5 x 7 watercolour |
"In the Battlefield" is from another magazine photo from my files. The lone cannon and the dark threatening sky made me think of the loneliness and the terror of war, something I hope never to experience.
I am planning the next few paintings around some more of the pre-cut mats that I got from the 'going-out-of-business' frame shop. This is a bit awkward as I normally paint first then worry about the matting, but it sure helps clean up my shelves.

That dark sky really help give the cannon the feel of something destructive. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan. I thought the dark sky was very important too. Glad you like this.
DeleteWhen I saw this in the link up, I said, "Whoa!" Then I opened it up. Really amazing work Val. The sky is wonderful, perfect. I love how you have captured the fading light on the wheels, and the trees. The grasses just glow, pefection again. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sheila. I am glad you like it and am thrilled with your response.
DeleteWell yeah it is a bit of a leap but certainly proves you can paint with a serious message. But boy does it capture a feeling and tell a story. Just super work Val.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nelvia. The time and care it took to paint the cannon really gave me time to think about the subject with this piece. Glad it had a strong impact with you.
