30/30 January Challenge #18

In spite of spending most of the morning shovelling snow, I have managed to get two paintings done. I now have three pieces to choose from for today's post.
#996 - to the Meadow - 5 x 7 watercolour
This piece was done following a step-by-step tutorial in one of my books - "Painting Shapes & Edges" by Hazel Harrison. The instruction painting was "The Spinney" by Alan Oliver. I don't use my books nearly as often as I should and keep telling myself to make use of such a valuable resource - maybe this time I will listen.

I am just going to post this to Leslie's 30/30 page and a few other places, then I have to go back out and shovel more snow.

  1. I really like the rich colors you used in this. Nice!!! Hope the snow shoveling isn't too exhausting.

    1. Thanks Joan, glad you like it. I am lucky, Bob can get the driveway done and still come and help with the sidewalks and patios before I can finish them. More snow is expected in the next few days but that is winter for you!.

  2. This is beautiful Val. Love the softness in the trees, the detailed branches, the golden grasses. So very lovely :)

  3. I really like the composition of this piece. The colors as Shelia says are really nice and there is a softness about this. I gladly will do leaves and give up the snow, but either is work I guess. I am like you, I have this huge selection and peruse it but seldom really get dug in and read them. I am trying to do that rather than just think about buying a new one as I know I have one that says the same thing. Books and videos are great, but it still takes just getting in there and doing it. Have a good one and hope you get a break from the snow.

    1. Hi Nelvia, glad you like this piece. You are so right about getting in there and using our books, videos and Youtube - it is easier to just play it by ear. The snow is melting - hooray - but sliding off the metal roof and we have nowhere to put the stuff so it will probably stay where it is - lol
