Sometimes things don't work out quite the way you think they will.

Bee Balm card |
This piece started out as a line drawing of just the flower based on one of Claudia Nice's illustrations, then I added the shading. I was reasonably happy with it but thought that the bottom of the card needed something. So, I went on-line to see what the leaves of the Bee balm looked like and added some to my drawing.
I am not sure if leaves add or detract from the whole; maybe simplicity would have been better.

I like the leaves Val. maybe one could have been slightly smaller than the other, but I do like that they are different shapes. I like that they are smooth and curvaceous, really sets off the jagged petals. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila. I often over think things and my husband says I have a tendency to overwork things too. I guess this piece might fit both those points - lol
DeleteProbably would have looked good either way, but I think the leaves balance and also point the way up to,the flower.
ReplyDeleteHi Nelvia. It is interesting see the different reasons people like or dislike the leaves. I think I will do another card just using the flower to compare them. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI love the sketchiness of this flower, Val - so loose and organic. I think I would have been inclined to leave the stem disappear into the white of the page, but either way works.
ReplyDeleteHi Win, I have being wondering if doing the leaves in a looser fashion would work better - oh well, back to the drawing board - lol
