It is always a chore but I finally have my garden and my pots ready for planting.

I think I will have enough plants! |
So everything is ready and I hope to start planting tomorrow even though there is still snow on the mountains. Our weather has been pretty good and the forecast is for more of the same so I am going ahead in spite of local lore saying we should wait. I have some arthritis in my hands and I can only work for less than an hour so it will take a while to get the job done and by the time I am finished the snow will be gone - I hope!.
With all the garden work, I haven't done much art in the last few weeks but I did manage to do a bit of quilling. I am continuing to work with the alphabet and have completed the B, C, D, and R. The R was done for my sister who wanted the B and R for a wedding gift.
For the D, I was thinking about something boys might like, hence the dark background and the skull. I have to come up with more parent friendly images, like soccer balls and trucks - lol.
A few weeks ago, a local artist friend had a give-away on her blog.
Win Dinn is a fabulous mixed media artist with a passion for colour. She is well know in our area for her unusual style and fun filled workshops. At any rate, back to the give-away - I won! I almost never win anything and I was thrilled to get one of Win's recent pieces.

The New Hood by Win Dinn, 2018 |
Win's 'wonky houses' will join two other paintings by her that I am lucky enough to own.
Thanks for stopping by! I love to hear from you so please leave a comment.
Guess winning is due to your "clean" living Val. Isn't that exciting to have such a unique piece, and not in your style at all, so nice addition to your pictures. Like how the quilling is coming. Ah yes, I just got done planting my few pots. Have worked now for a couple of weeks getting the new yard in shape. Feels so odd since it is so much smaller. Just have a few herbs now and a couple of pots of color. Hard to stifle the desire to get new plants, they are so enticing - but have to remember the deer like everything to so it is another reason to scale back. Can't wait to see the yard in a few weeks when it will be looking wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, ha - clean living indeed! there are some plants deer don't like; I often put Marigolds in with plants they do like and that seems to help keep them away. I also use deer repellent but it doesn't always help. Oh, well, they were here first. You will have to share picks of your new place once everything is in bloom.
DeleteWhen I saw all those pots I was wondering how you would fill them. Then I saw that fabulous greenhouse!! I worked in my shade gardens this week. Raking the last of the leaves and burning them. It feel so good to get my hands dirty! Congrats on the wonderful win!
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy. I really prefer pots - no weeds - and as the siding on the house is almost to the ground we don't like grass or flower beds around the building. I start my plants in the house in January and move them into the greenhouse in April; I figure I save myself a few hundred dollars by growing them myself. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteOh your garden is going to be so lovely. I know you will show us when it is all in bloom. LOVE the quilled letters. I do like the creepy one, but you are right, something friendly and universal will sell better. Happy planting Val :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sheila. Weather permitting the garden will be good. I am glad you like the quilled letters. I imagine some one might like the 'creepy' one but consensus is for something more friendly. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteAs always, I am amazed at all that you accomplish, Val. From your prodigious gardening to your many artistic endeavours to your tremendous volunteering for the arts, I salute you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Win - gotta keep the hands and the mind busy although some days I just want to kick back and read - lol.
DeleteLooks like you are all set for the garden! Love the idea of the quilled letters as a wedding gift.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan - glad you were able to get enough internet to check some blogs.
