We had a surprise visitor this morning; one who insisted on checking out my plants. I followed him around the house and took some photos.

Of course, I stayed in the house to take the photos. Although I thought briefly about opening the door to scare him off, I decided he wasn't hurting anything.

This one is hard to see but he is up on his hind legs again checking out the hanging basket by the living room.
He actually took a taste of the Rhododendron but moved before I could get that picture.

He had a nice walk around the place but didn't do any damage and then he quietly continued on his way into the forest. The joys of living in the country!
I'm glad you weren't outside filling the pots. The bear must be a very inquisitive creature. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan. I am glad I wasn’t outside too. I found out after I posted this that he got into the garbage and dragged it into the forest and scattered it all over - time to store the garbage in one of the outbuildings!
DeleteWOW! Yes, glad you were not out planting. He could have sneaked up on your while you were entranced with your work! Terrific pictures Val! How often do you see bears in your yard? I think I will stick with bunnies and road runners, LOL :) Today one of each out front, and then a pack of about four small birds, eating something from the rocks out front. They were quick and gone to soon for a photo.
ReplyDeleteI was glad I wasn't outside too. The bears come through with some regularity but we don't always see them as they come at night. We will often see scat, especially during cherry season. I prefer the deer and the raccoons - lol. I always envy people who manage to take photos of birds - I don't have the patience. Have a nice evening Sheila.
DeleteOn my! What an interesting visitor! Glad you were safe in your house! I live in the country, but not deep enough for bears!
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy. Black bears don't usually stick around if people are out AND making some noise - I am going to have to start wearing some bells or sing when I am gardening - lol.
DeleteOh my gosh, what a sight, not being country I don't know what I would do coming face-to- face. Great pics
ReplyDeleteThe trick is to make a lot of noise, Nelvia. That will usually scare them away. It is important to keep garbage locked up and no food outside. Bears will eat almost anything and have very good noses. I don't think I want to meet one face-to-face either - lol. Have a nice evening.
DeleteI'm sure it's all that gardening, Val - the inspector has to stop by regularly to ensure that you're doing it right! :D
ReplyDeleteHa, ha! I guess I made a mistake because he came back that night and pulled out a couple of plants. Hopefully he will be satisfied that every thing here is OK an dhe won't be back.
