Definitely Crazy!

That's me, definitely crazy. As if I don't have enough to do with my Watercolour Painting Parties, my garden and flowers, and visitors to my home gallery - I just had to go and decide to do the 'Every Day in May' drawing/painting challenge.
May 1 to 4
Granted the paintings aren't large but they still take time. I took my smallest sketch book and divided the pages in four which limits the size and forces me to work small and quickly. The list for the challenge includes a number of things I would never consider painting so it is a double challenge. Have a look and see - maybe you will try it too.

This weekend I will be attending a 2 1/2 day watercolour workshop and I am looking forward to it. But, I still want to get a few more things made for the table I will be setting up for the Bird Festival. The quilled hummingbirds have been popular in the past  and so have my cards that feature hummingbirds so I hope to make a few of each.
This is one of the quilled ornaments I make using 1/4" paper strips and it is the 100th ornament I have made. As I hope to do a few Quilling Parties this year, I was pleased that I was able to time myself while doing this piece today. It took just over an hour to complete so my estimate that novices will be able to do two simple quilled projects in 3 1/2 hours sounds about right (I hope). It also means I will be able to get a number of quilled birds done by next Friday.

Oops! just remembered that I have to go close up the greenhouse. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Aren't you just a going concern?! You're always up to your eyebrows in everything art, and then you take on more. Well done, Val!

  2. I would have guessed the quilling to take longer than that. Lots on that list sounds challenging, things I would not think to paint either. Keep sharing your daily's with us! Great job so far... love your Yoda!

    1. Hi Sheila. The quilled hummer is pretty basic and once your hands get the rhythm things go reasonably fast. As for the challenge; today it is a car or truck - yikes!

    1. Thanks Barb. I invited my art club to try it but no takers. I guess they figure it would take too long and this is a busy time of year. Oh well, nobody twisted my arm - lol. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Love the quilled bird ornament! That would be such a fun project to learn. I had to pass on EDM this year...just no time. Nice sketches!

    1. Glad you like the hummer ornament Joan; I think they are fun to do but I know other who moan about even the idea - lol. This is my first time doing the EDM and more and more as the month goes on I think again - 'I am crazy'!

  5. I think you will enjoy this, it is kind of like Wetcanvas where they have the scavenger hunt each week I think it is. You end up drawing lots of things you wouldn't normally and find lots of things in your environment you didn't really look at before or at least for a long time. Love the hummers in real life and this would be having one all year round. Girlfriend, don't know how you keep all the balls in the air - but you keep on going!!!

    1. HI Nelvia. I am enjoying the EDM but am very glad I am doing such small pictures for it - there aren't enough hours in a day! Our hummers are back for the summer and are such a joy to watch as they fight over the feeder. I am making a few more in paper for the bird fest but I am using photos fro reference as the live one move too fast - lol. Have a great day!
