LYA Side Swaps

Many of the participants of Kat Sloma's annual Liberate Your Art postcard swap get extra cards made and do side swaps. My plan was to just do 5 extra cards for the side swap but I had a number of requests so I increased the number to 12. I don't know how many of my cards have been received but I have had 9 land in my mailbox.

I thought about displaying them all together but decided that each is so special it needed its own photo. Many of the cards were displayed with my bedding plants, a few were displayed with some of my own art and quilling and one I stuck in an old half barrel that I use as a planter.

My own cards for the LYA swap are cut down from the art cards I make to sell in my home gallery and a few local venues. Because my cards were home made and designed to go in envelopes I have wondered if they manage to survived the journey through various post offices. I have only heard from a few people that my cards have arrived so I am still guessing. Turning cards into post cards has one advantage - I can easily send out a variety of different pictures. Here are some of the cards I sent for the side swap.

I am still expecting few more cards and I look forward to seeing what other wonders I will gain for my collection of post cards. The LYA postcard swap is a great way to connect with new artists and I encourage my readers to try it out next year.

EDM and LYA

How is that for a title to confuse? For those who don't recognize the abbreviations they are; Every Day in May - a drawing/painting challenge, and Liberate Your Art postcard swap.

Here are my my sketches for the EDM for May 5 to 12

Some things are a lot harder than others to do, mostly because of lack of practice on those subjects. As I am not into automobiles the truck was just out of my head and how often have you painted an eraser or elastic band?

I have surprised myself by managing to get a sketch done every day considering all the other things going on in my life - thankfully they are small!.

I received the final two cards in the LYA side-swap, both lovely pieces.

This super piece is from Sherry Harmes in Alaska and I thought it worked well with one of my winter scene paintings. I love the quote from Mae West that Sherry wrote - "Too much of a good thing is Wonderful" Isn't that a super way to think? Check out Sherry's Facebook page

The second card is from Tammy Wilson. I admit it took me a while to figure out the subject of the photograph - it helps when you look at thinks right side up. I thought the merry-go-round worked well displayed with my twirly holder for my quilled ornaments.  Here is the link to Tammy's Facebook page

The LYA swap has been a great experience and I have made a number of new 'friends' I am sure I will participate again next year.

Now I am off to do today's sketch then I will be working in the yard - no rest at this time of year!

LYA Side Swaps 2017

When I decided to join the Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap I had no plans to do any side swaps. However, I had a couple of people request a side swap and then, out of the blue, I got a card from a blogging friend Sheila Delgado.

At any rate, I decided that I would do 5 more cards and in the last few days I have received two cards from side swaps.

 This card came all the way to Wynndel BC Canada (via Porthill, Idaho) from Louise Mammet in France. This photo does not do the card justice unfortunately because the colours and the texture are really super.

This burst of colour is from Patsy Lawrence in Murfreesboro, TN. A fascinating mixed media piece done in an altered photography book - so very cool!

It has been so much fun getting 'happy' mail and I can't wait to see what the next trip to the post office brings.
