Surprise Party

Well, it was a surprise to me!

Last year I made some "Cool Bags for Caps" for a lady I met at the Boswell Art Fair. This Monday she phoned asking if I could do a Painting Party for a group of 6; her, a friend and 4 teenage girls. They wanted to come in the morning so I had to figure out which paintings they might be able to do in a shorter time than my regular parties. I decided to have them do 7 x 10 paintings thinking that they would take less time than 10 x 14 pieces. I still underestimated the time it would take but it all worked out in the end.

Each of them did a fabulous job on their paintings and I think they were all very happy with the results.

I am afraid I got the girls all mixed up so I haven't added their names under their photos.

You might have noticed that these photos were taken outside. Kim asked that we have the painting party on the deck so that we could enjoy the weather. The atmosphere was great but it did make painting a bit of a challenge because the paint was drying too fast for easy blending. However, you can see that they all did a great job.

My husband took about 30 photos of us while we were working but I figured that is just too many for this blog - lol. He did take a group shot of all the participants which I think is a great way to end this post.

Thanks for stopping by. I would love to hear what you are up to this summer.

    1. Hi Sheila, they did do great didn't they? It is a lovely spot, we hear the bubbling of the creek and the birdsong whenever we enjoy the space although it is nicer when it is a bit cooler - lol.

    1. Hi Caryle. It always amazes me how well people do at my painting parties, especially as many of them have never painted before. You should put together a group and book a party - lots of fun and a masterpiece at the end. Thanks for taking time to comment.

  4. What a great idea for a painting party combining different ages. I love the variety of subjects that each person selected and completed in one sitting!!!

    1. I have had a few parties before with kids included but this one was the client's organization - her, her friend, her daughters and their two friends. It worked out so well that I hope I get more requests like this one. I like it when participants choose different scenes too - makes it more creative somehow. Thanks for stopping by Joan.

  5. It's great that you are so flexible and all the prep work you did on other parties is really paying off. Great results and I know that you have touched some folks who will go on and keep making art. Just has to make you smile when you see the results and the comprehension. To make a painting so well in a small amount of time says you got it together girl!! Kudos

    1. Thanks Nelvia. Having done a number of painting parties before did make it easier to put this one together so quickly. And, it is good to be flexible with the parties as I often earn more teaching than I do selling art. As for the 'small amount of time' I usually underestimate how long it will take other people to paint a scene I can do in an hour. Thanks for stopping by.
