LYA Postcard Swap 2017 Finale

The final pieces are in place! All the cards have been mailed and most received and it is time for the Blog Hop and the video of many of this year's cards.
I decided to join the LYA Postcard Swap rather late so I just used some of the many cards I have on hand. These are all photos of my original paintings which I glue onto cards; they are a super way for visitors to the area to take home an inexpensive reminder of their stay. Most of the pictures I chose for the swap depict the Creston Valley - or they could - lol. My cards are not postcards so I had to do some cutting and adapting.
These are the cards I received in the mail. It was a treat each time we picked them up and I enjoyed getting in touch with all of the artists and checking out their websites, Facebook or Google+ pages. You will find some of those links in previous blog posts - just click the LYA label at the bottom of this post.

I enjoyed the quotes and stories on each card and seeing so many other cards on the Facebook group page. One thing that disappointed me about the swap; only one of my cards was shared on Facebook. I received notices from the recipients of 4 of my cards and was able to check out many of their blogs and websites. Part of the fun for me was to see all the different cards that I didn't get and I guess others feel the same way - oh well!

I am going to add my link the the Blog Hop on Kat's page - LYA FINALE
and I hope you will go over and check out some of the other blogs, see the statistics and have a look at the video.

Special thanks to Kat Sloma for organizing the LYA Postcard swap for another year and to all of the people who helped out with the sorting and labelling. It has been a super experience and I imagine I will do it again next year!

  1. Sure hope you do, do it next year! Love the art you shared, and what a great group you received as well. I am glad that Kat does the video, and for the Facebook page. It woudl be awesome to receive on of every card wouldn't it. But I don't think I would want to write out that many cards in return! LOL. So glad to see you in the swap. Happy creating to you, chat with you soon :)

    1. Hi Lisa. I hadn't planned to do any side swaps this year as I am just figuring out the process but for special requests I am more than happy to comply. Send me an email - val@mellowood.ca - with your address and which card you would prefer. I am so glad you like my cards.

  3. Love the pieces you created as well as those you received. I agree that it would be great to see all the postcards that were created by everyone. When I did swaps on WetCanvas we had a special place where we posted all the work that we did. As soon as the person notified you that they received it, you would post it so everyone could see it. Swaps are fun. I'll have to go visit do some hopping and visit the other blogs.

    1. Thanks Joan, I am glad you like my cards. LYA has a group FB page but not everyone does FB I guess. I think I will be spending the next week doing the blog hop - there is only enough time in a day to do a few - lol. I hope you do hop and enjoy the other blogs. Have a great day.

  4. Your cards are always so nice I am sure those on the receiving end were happy as well. It seems like such a nice positive that I am going to be on the lookout for it next year too. You guys inspire me so much and know about things I never heard of until I see it happening with you. Got to get out of my own little world!!

    1. Thanks Nelvia, I am glad you like my cards. If I weren't friends with Sheila I wouldn't know about these things either and Joan is involved in other challenges and swaps. There are so many out there that we could spend all our time doing them - lol. Your own little world is working well for you so don't knock it. Have a great day!

  5. Hi Val, I've been part of the swap for a while now, and I find that some people do the hop, some send images for the video and some post on facebook. Yet others just send a thank you to the person whose postcard they received. It's that variety which mekes this swap continually fascinating for me. I don't always hear from those who receive my cards, but maybe they are stuck in some remote sorting office, or they were so beautiful that a postal worker pocketed one before it reached its destination :) As always I love your paintings, especially the one of the mountain ridge.

    1. Thanks you Sea. I had to laugh at your comment about the postal worker pocketing a card but I keep hoping that my last one went to a remote region where mail takes forever to arrive. No worries, the swap has been a great experience and I have 'met' a bunch of new friends. Have a great day.
