First, I had a couple of people who stated they wanted to buy paintings and would 'stop by next week'. Neither came of course and that left me feeling down.

Second, there is a new manager at the local Chamber of Commerce where we have a great display space for local art. He plans to make changes and I am afraid that the art display will be adversely affected. Also, I now have a committee to help with the art displays and you know what they say about committees - lol.
Next, I have been adding more product to my Amazon Handmade page. http://www.amazon.com/handmade/Mellowood-Studio?ref=hnd_dp_smp
This takes a fair bit of work; taking and cleaning up photos and then doing the posting. Although I had a few sales before Christmas, I am constantly wondering if I will ever sell anything else - lol
Finally, tourist season is not too far away and I am making some plans that will, hopefully, improve my chances of attracting more visitors to my home gallery.
We put up a new sign at the highway, directing people up the hill. This photo doesn't show the true color; it is very bright yellow and should attract more attention than the previous white sign. I am also going to be working with a few other artists in my area as well as a local winery. The idea is to promote each other to visitors, using rack cards, business cards and maybe even a small map pointing out our locations.
All of these things seem to be on my mind constantly so my mood swings up and down, up and down. I am sure this is just a temporary blip in my state of mind and that I will be back to thinking 'que sera, sera'.
Hang in there my thoughtful friend, hard work and perseverance are part of the equation. You might be surprised, pleasantly, by what the changes bring.Best wishes to you Val :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your encouragement Sheila. All I can do is my best and hope for the best.
DeleteGreat advice from Sheila. I would add that we can get bogged down by those negative thoughts: I'm not selling, No one shows up, Maybe I'm not good enough, and on and on and ON. Everyone goes through it at one time or another. Those are the times to remember all the really good things people have said about your art, the people who have bought your art, and the people who love your art!! Then just create right from your heart, and the rest will take care of itself!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the words of wisdom Laurie. I often used to think negatively at this time of year but thought those days were over. I have to remember that I do art because I enjoy it and the selling is just a bonus. Have a great weekend.
DeleteVal, you have beautiful work which people do appreciate. I always think it is a blessing to be able to create artwork, and then another blessing when people appreciate it even if they don't buy it. I like the idea of the bright yellow sign. I would follow it!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the kind words Joan.I hope that lots of people feel the way you do this year and follow the sign. Creating art has been a blessing in my life and, generally, I don't worry too much about selling - I am just having a blip I guess. Take care and have a great weekend.
DeleteHang in there Val, might just be the time of the year. When it looks the worst something good will come to perk you up. We love your creativity and you are an inspiration to us daily.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Nelvia for your words of comfort and support.
