I can't say that I was very happy when I saw this week's color choices. Two oranges and a blue? I love this combination - I wear it quite often.

one of my orange & blue ensembles | |
But, it is not a combination that I would use in a painting. I am not saying that I haven't used it but the subject has to be right, like this painting that I did back in '02.
|
Orange & Blue 5 x 7 watercolor |
At any rate, with nothing coming to mind I decided (once again) to just play and see what happens.
|
Feathery - 11 x 14 acrylic |
Although I have signed the painting, I am not sure if it is finished. I rather like the effect but I think I will have to live with it for a while before I decide if it needs more work.
This has been a very interesting 6 weeks - where has the time gone? - and I have enjoyed the color prompts that Kristin gave us. If you want to see some of the latest submissions

ReplyDeleteThe Bird of Paradise is a perfect subject for the color theme. I like your featherly one too. I'm sorry the the 6 weeks are over as I just joined the group last week.
ReplyDeleteThank you Wanda. I am sorry the 6 weeks are up too as having a weekly 'assignment' to work on is about the only art I have managed this summer. It has been fun. You will have to make sure you get involved earlier next year. There are a number of these types of challenges out there and they are a great way to 'meet' other artists. Thanks for stopping by.

ReplyDeleteThe bird of paradise flowers are a lovely watercolor ---and great in orange with blue shadows. Your feathery is beautiful, too. I'm not sure what else I would do with it, but it seems to need something in the lower right for balance. But, like you, I often put things on the shelf for a while and then one day lightning strikes with a brilliant idea.

Thanks CJ. I can only hope that lightening will strike or that the painting will catch someone's eye just the way it is and the painting will go to a new home.
DeleteNice work for SOC, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie-Jael. It has been fun!
DeleteGorgeous work! I love what you did with this week's SOC colors. And I especially like that you just went with it and came up with a lovely work of art! It has been a pleasure following you these past weeks! HUGS!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon, for the lovely comment and for following me during the SOC. I hope that we can keep in touch in the future.
DeleteBeautiful work using great colors :)
ReplyDeleteThanks you Siggadisart. The SOC has been fun and I have enjoyed sharing my art with the other artists and seeing their work.
DeleteFabulous takes on the colours! The paintings are so beautiful and inspiring, the second one is very expressive.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs

Thank you Maarit for your lovely comment
DeleteSometimes it's good enough to go with the flow, I did that too this week. Love your outcome and that flower is spot on.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laila. I seem to have 'gone with the flow' a number of time with SOC but I got some interesting paintings out of it. I am sure I will try this again next year but I hope you will keep in touch throughout the year too.
Deleteyour paintings are awesome... and time will Show if the last one Needs more or not. actually i like it as is.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Joanna for your lovely comment. I keep looking at 'Feathery' but so far nothing is popping into my mind for that finishing touch. It has been great being part of SOC and 'meeting' so many artists. I hope you will continue to enjoy my posts.
DeleteNice SOC-entries!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I discovered your blog and will come back again :-)
Thanks Valerie. It has been nice to 'meet' you and I hope to 'see' you again - lol
DeleteLove the feel of this Val. There is a lot of energy, but it is sort of peaceful too. Reminds me of the fog rolling in. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila. I think that is what the painting does for me too - mixed signals - lol
Deletelove your piece for this week but I'd add a quote in the orange space-only because I love them!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Linda. I hadn't thought of a quote but maybe that would work. I have been thinking about a pen & ink drawing but am still sitting on the fence - problems, problems, problems - lol. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteHow lovely. Your pieces are helping convince me this is perfectly wonderful color combination.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah. I got a good chuckle from our comment. I checked your blog and liked your story and your SOC piece. Have a great week.
DeleteLovely, my eye keeps going back to the blue to trace the flow of it over and over.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Screaming Feline for the lovely comment on my painting.
ReplyDeleteLove the bird of paradise- how perfect for this theme!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lori. I was lucky to have the photo of the bird of paradise painting - it is pretty much the only one I have in those colors. They are NOT colors I usually use and the more I look at the one I did especially for SOC the less I like it - it needs work. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteWow Val! This is absolutely gorgeous! I wish my paintings turned out this lovely when I "go with the flow". I usually end up with mud :) Love the bird of paradise too, but I really LOVE the Feathery! Hope to play with you again next year :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Becky, I had a bit of mud problem on 'Feathery' and had to redo parts of it a few times and finally decided to stop before I screwed up again - lol. I hope to play again next year and see what everyone comes up with. Have a great weekend.
DeleteThe bird of paradise painting is gorgeous and so perfect for this week's color theme. Your new painting is striking as it is but would also look great with an addition in the orange space.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Julia.
