DAY 3 - Retroactive

I am DONE! Thirty pieces of art done in 30 days! I think I will take a few days off after this - no, wait - I have Art Club on Wednesday so I guess I will only take one day off.

I decided to finish with the style that I have spent so much time on lately, so here is another Oriental Style painting.

Flowering Peach

Flowering Peach is a 7 x 10 watercolor on crinkled Masa paper. Once again the water is the difficult part of this style and using the crinkled paper added to the challenge. This paper is a bit thicker than normal rice paper so more water can be used which is good as it works better with the texturing. But I had to be careful not to use too much water - it is all a balancing act!

I hope everyone has a great week! Think Spring!

  1. Again another beautiful painting. I like the paper texture, really makes an interesting background. I tried to take off but the habit is a bit ingrained.
On your question the green you see in the tiger is the matboard color. I have a bunch of matboard that are the centers and chose the green as I thought the oranges and background colors of this picture would work if I left a bit of ground showing through.

    1. Thanks Nelvia. I guess it is a good habit to have - painting every day. Thanks for answering my question. I wondered if the green was for a neutral background. A few years ago a friend gave me a container of a muddy olive green (left over paint mix) which she suggested would be great for that purpose but I haven't tried it yet. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks Annie - you should try some small pieces like this. About Phil - I can't say I'm surprised - there are always 6 more weeks of winter - actually more like 7 because the spring equinox is around March 20. - lol
Take care & enjoy your weather!

  3. Oh Val, this is so lovely. The texture in the branch is great, and the details, the variation in the petals... beautiful!

    1. Thank you so much Sheila. I really didn't want to paint the final piece so I am surprised it turned out so well. I am taking the day off and cleaning my studio - next challenge is trying Anime or Manga just for the fun of it!
