I decided to finish with the style that I have spent so much time on lately, so here is another Oriental Style painting.
Flowering Peach |
Flowering Peach is a 7 x 10 watercolor on crinkled Masa paper. Once again the water is the difficult part of this style and using the crinkled paper added to the challenge. This paper is a bit thicker than normal rice paper so more water can be used which is good as it works better with the texturing. But I had to be careful not to use too much water - it is all a balancing act!
I hope everyone has a great week! Think Spring!
Again another beautiful painting. I like the paper texture, really makes an interesting background. I tried to take off but the habit is a bit ingrained.
ReplyDeleteOn your question the green you see in the tiger is the matboard color. I have a bunch of matboard that are the centers and chose the green as I thought the oranges and background colors of this picture would work if I left a bit of ground showing through.
Thanks Nelvia. I guess it is a good habit to have - painting every day. Thanks for answering my question. I wondered if the green was for a neutral background. A few years ago a friend gave me a container of a muddy olive green (left over paint mix) which she suggested would be great for that purpose but I haven't tried it yet. Have a great week!
DeletePuxatawney Phil says 6 more weeks of winter! Val your self challenges are inspiring!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Annie - you should try some small pieces like this. About Phil - I can't say I'm surprised - there are always 6 more weeks of winter - actually more like 7 because the spring equinox is around March 20. - lol
DeleteTake care & enjoy your weather!
Oh Val, this is so lovely. The texture in the branch is great, and the details, the variation in the petals... beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sheila. I really didn't want to paint the final piece so I am surprised it turned out so well. I am taking the day off and cleaning my studio - next challenge is trying Anime or Manga just for the fun of it!
DeleteI love this delicate and beautiful painting. Glad I discovered your blog! And thank you for your comments!
