Waiting for Warmth

It may be Spring but we sure haven't had much warm weather. My bedding plants have grown nicely and I am chomping at the bit wanting to get them planted. But, there is still snow on the mountains, way too much rain lower down and it is still too d... cold.

The plants are happy in the greenhouse but the heater is still coming on at night and I don't think they would do well if I planted them out. Most of my flowers go in pots around the house. I find that pots don't get weeds like flowerbeds do and I don't have to bend as far - lol.

All the pots ready for flowers; there are about 50 of them but they have a lot of space to fill. Here are some photos of the yard when the pots are full and in bloom.

While we are waiting and hoping for warm weather, we have been doing some work around the yard - between rain showers. One thing just completed today was a new gallery Open sign at the end of the driveway. I am lucky enough to have a very handy husband who can do so many things and is also willing to do them.
And here are a few pictures of what visitors to the gallery see as they come down my driveway.

Oh, wait, Bob is not usually standing in the middle of the drive - lol. Anyway, there are still a few turns before reaching the house and people are often concerned about what they will find at the end. They needn't worry as there is lots of space to turn a car around.
Anyway, that is what Spring has been like so far this year; we go out wearing winter jackets or stay in the house waiting for warmth.

  1. What a fun little trip this was. Love all the plants and your gardens are gorgeous. It is always fun to get things out, but then the doldrums of cutting back, cutting back, cutting back begin - at least in my garden. Like the "artisan" sign too.

    1. Morning Nelvia, glad you liked the 'trip' down the driveway. The drive and the property inspired the name 'Mellowood' as we always seem to mellow out when we come home. I don't mind the deadheading and cutting back during the summer -it gets me out in the yard - lol. The Artisan sign is put up by Tourism BC - we just add the Open sign which is reversible with Closed on the other side. There are also Artisan signs on the highway to direct people up the hill to our place- sometimes it works - lol.

    1. It is raining today and even colder - at this rate spring and summer are going to be really short. I just hope that the new sign will help get more visitors. Thanks for stopping by Sheila.

  3. I love the idea of planting flower in pots! I'm getting too old and stiff for much weeding! Great new sign and such a lovely drive to your studio!

    1. Hi Cathy. I have been too old and stiff to weed for a few years - lol and am even thinking about using landscape fabric and gravel around the perennials in my one flowerbed - anything to make things easier. Glad you like the sign; I hope it works! Have a great day!

  4. I love that Artisan sign...it really made me smile. Great idea about the flowers in the pots. It makes it much easier to take care of them that way. I only have a patio, so I keep everything in flower boxes or pots too. I just planted my herbs yesterday, but haven't bought my flowers yet. Until this week the weather was still rather iffy, but this week has warmed up quite a bit. Enjoy!

    1. Joan, sometimes I wish I only had a patio - lol. we have 5 1/2 acres although over half is forest and totally useless except to give us major privacy. I am growing my herbs inside and plan to have them in my kitchen window where they will be handy for cooking. My flowers are just for enjoyment - if the weather ever warms up - today? brr!
